Enes Ribić

The earliest forebear we know by name was Enes. His son was Omer, and Omer’s son was Avdo — popularly known as Avdikadija. His birth year is not recorded; it is estimated at around 1715 — about two generations (~30 years each) before Avdikadija, who was born in 1775.

By family legend, our family comes from »Uskoplje«, a valley in the upper Vrbas region, somewhere around present-day Kopčić. When our ancestors arrived in Jezero they took up fishing. As the legend goes, the Bosnian queen »Black Mara« said to our forebear: »You are my little fisherman (ribić)« — and so the surname was born.
