Biography
Akif, or Kifo as he was called, was one of Avdikadija’s four sons. It is after him that the descendants of his sons Avdo and Himzo in Jezero — known as Avdo Kifin and Himzo Kifin — came to be called Kifić.
He was married to Hanumica, one of the four daughters of Smailbeg Ganibegović of Vražić. With her he had four children: sons Avdo and Himzo and daughters Bisera and Paša. Their gravestone records that Avdo was older than his brother Himzo.
Akif’s exact occupation is unknown, but he was a wealthy man in Jezero: he left his sons a large estate and a great mill with twelve stones, gave Himzo the terzija (tailoring) trade, and Avdo also had a han (inn) and two shops.
Akif lived through turbulent times. When Omer-pasha seized the sons of the Jezero kadi to force their father’s surrender, Akif was among them; after Avdikadija surrendered the brothers were released. Bosnia remained restless afterwards as the Ottoman Empire weakened.
