Himzo Ribić — Kifin

Himzo, Akif’s younger son, was a terzija — a tailor of traditional costume. He had a wife, Niza, and three children: Omer, Jakub and Nazifa. Nazifa married Ahmed Šehić in Mrkonjić Grad.

He is remembered as an old man who, though over ninety, still walked upright with a cane, bearded and dressed in old Bosnian garb. During the war he was a refugee (muhadžir) in Jajce, staying with his son Jakub and daughter-in-law Šefka.

Several anecdotes survive about him. He had a reputation for taking it easy. When his wife Niza would call out »Himzo, go fetch some firewood!« — and the wood was up the steep Hotomalj — he would pretend not to hear, until at last he would sigh: »I can’t, Niza, it’s too steep. Me uphill, my legs downhill!«
