Biography

Avdo, Akif’s elder son, was called Avdo Kifin or Kifić, and so his descendants too were called Kifić. From his father he inherited a large estate, a han (inn), two shops, and — with his brother Himzo — a great mill on the Pliva with 12 stones.

As his son Rasim recounted, his trade did not go well; he took a loan from the Gradska Bank and, unable to pay the interest, lost both his shop and a large part of his land. He sold the inn in 1913 to a man named Rosić, who a year later sold it to Sajdaga Hasić. That inn was, according to Hazim Šabanović (the book »The Last Inns of Bosnia«), one of the last hans in Bosnia. Avdo’s elder son Esed studied in Sarajevo and later in Vienna, which also strained the family finances.

Avdo was married to Hava Šuškić of Duljci, sister of Huso and Ago. He died in 1919, aged over seventy.
